Why the Time Is Right for a New Sydney Office
By Peter Biazos
The decision to open a Sydney office has had two main drivers. I’ve always had a connection to the city, as it was where my Father’s family first settled when they came to Australia from Greece.
Over the years, on a professional level, we’ve started to see a very strong referral network develop through various sources, including the excellent Brisbane practitioners we know up here who have Sydney practices.
Many in our network of solicitors and accountants began saying to us, “We’ve got an office down in Sydney, too. Would you be interested in working with them?” Of course, we wanted to be able to help as many businesses as possible, so we threw our hat in the ring.
Over time, the positive outcomes of our engagements spread through word of mouth, which meant we gained significant traction within the Sydney network.
Initially, we managed by visiting every six to eight weeks. However, feedback became clear: our existing and prospective clients wanted to see us have a presence there. They wanted someone they could ring and say, “Can I drop into the office to chat?”.
Listening to this feedback and wanting to deliver for our referral network and clients became the driving force behind our expansion strategy.
A Track Record That Built Trust
I think what made referrers say, “We need you to have a presence in Sydney,” comes down to our good track record, especially in Small Business Restructuring, where we offer practical solutions that enable businesses to recover with minimal insolvency impacts.
Our approach is not only effective but also cost-competitive, which resonated with our referrers and clients alike.
Our approach to establishing the Sydney office reflects our core philosophy. Rather than acquiring an existing practice or buying out a liquidator, we’ve chosen to grow organically, just as we’ve built B&T Advisory here in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast.
Welcoming Troy Graham
We wanted someone who aligned with our values and approach, and I’m thrilled to welcome Troy Graham to the team.
Troy’s experience and attitude make him a perfect fit. He’s come through the ranks and brings energy, curiosity, and a strong willingness to grow into the role.
Having Troy on the ground means clients can drop in, book a consultation, and get the support they need without waiting for someone to fly in.
We’ve also just signed another team member to come across, so watch this space…the Sydney office is already growing.
Expanding along the East Coast has always been part of the broader vision to grow B&T Advisory from a boutique practice into a respected second- or third-tier firm with a reputation for practical, people-first restructuring and insolvency advice.
Opening this office is a step in that direction, and I want to thank you all for your support and encouragement, which have helped us get to where we are today.
